LMNL – otherwise known as Simon Batten – has a new EP coming out in August. Seeing as that’s still two months away, we felt it only right to grace you with some material from it as soon as we could – sooner than anyone else, in fact. So we are exclusively premiering for your listening and viewing pleasure, a sophisticated, dance-y alt-pop vide in the form of ‘Moonlight Cinema’.

The Oxford native has already made a big impact on the Italian music scene since he swapped the erratic British weather and moved to Florence for guaranteed sunshine, and ‘Moonlight Cinema’ is about just that.

“I wanted to capture the heightened emotions that come from the summer heat here in Florence when the light at sunset renders everyone at their most beautiful. The song takes its name from an outdoor cinema with neon lighting that hasn’t changed a bit since the 80s. I thought it would be the perfect setting for a coming-of-age movie from that era,” he says of the track.

With the big changes we’re having to make to how we live our lives and the re-adjustments to leisure activities due to the coronavirus, outdoor cinemas might be something we see more of this summer.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ll be at a real moonlight cinema this summer or watching films on your own in your room, you can press play and create your own 80s film in your head with ‘Moonlight Cinema’ as the soundtrack, and the visuals from videographer Ivan Carel to go with.
