On Oliver Tree’s up-front anthem ‘Cash Machine’ (not to be confused with ‘Money Machine’), he confronts a high and mighty hoarder who is clearly just putting on a front. “Smile, show your golden teeth,” he sings on the verse. “That’s how you cover up your cavities.” It’s a lot of talk coming from someone who looks like a pimp version of Lloyd Christmas, but that’s what makes it fun.
‘Cash Machine’ is among Oliver Tree’s simplest work, and it channels all the best power pop of Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers. It’s the lead single from his debut album Ugly is Beautiful, which drops via Atlantic Records on March 27, 2020. Check out the song and its flashy self-directed music video below.
