If you didn’t catch episode one, welcome to 31 Days of Deathmatches. This is an advent calendar style countdown to Halloween offering you a door of deliciously gory wrestling per day. Our trip to the spookiest day of the year will take us around the world and through time. This will chronicle some of the most significant deathmatches throughout the years but will mostly consist of my absolute favourite barbed wire bouts and glass shattering matches. Without further ado, let’s open the next door.
Since the news of a rematch between this duo in a Stairway to Hell match made its way onto yesterday’s door of the deathmatch calendar, I feel it’s only fair we cover the match that has caused all this violence in the first place. Jimmy Havoc may be one of Britain’s most notable deathmatch wrestlers but he has found one of his American counterparts in Ol Mance Warner. The master of Lariats and light beers is one of the most liked death match wrestlers in the US and a common MLW regular as well as touring many other promotions. The two clashed in a big way here. Oh, and Warner brought a spittoon to a promo segment.
This was every bit as violent as you could want it to be. The pair held nothing back to bring the pain in a big way. The match was classed as a Bunkhouse Brawl so there were a whole host of different weapons used to the standard deathmatch. Considering that Jimmy Havoc cut a pre-match promo by licking a pitchfork should set the precedent here. We had hay, pumpkins, pitchforks and more as Ol’ Mance had loaded his truck with all kinds of goodies. It could have been goofy as hell but the violence level of the competitors made it anything but. You even saw Marner strangled with the American flag. Havoc had no problem taking the anything goes stipulation to it’s limits. Havoc was crotched with a rake; Warner got his stapled to a Jack o Lantern and a board as the pair used as many different weapons as they could to hurt one another. The two commentators were killing me with their commentary too. Tony Schiavone and Rich Boccini were continuously shocked by what the pair were doing to each other. Also, I now know a Tootsie Pop helps with tongue bleeding apparently.
Warner won with a massive Lariat but Havoc would attack the Southern Psycho after the match, sending him to the hospital with razor wire lacerations. Based on these two matches it would appear that Jimmy Havoc is a bad loser and a bad winner. Mance Warner was borderline garrotted with the barbed wire as Havoc tried to choke the life from him and wrapped it in his mouth. It was a gruesome sight.
