NJPW: G1 Climax Day 18 Review

The B block finals are upon us Jon Moxley, Jay White and Tetsuya Naito are all in with a chance of block victory and Shingo Takagi vs Hirooki Goto promises to be a good battle of big boys.  Exciting times! let’s get right into the block action.

Toru Yano vs Jeff Cobb

Poor Yano got a full pat-down from the referee who confiscated all of his tapes.  Yano, not to be outsmarted, tried to use his trickery to beat Cobb, including getting Cobb’s arm’s stuck in his singlet for a roll up.  Cobb wasn’t best pleased by the antics and got the win with Tour Of The Islands

Winner: Jeff Cobb Rating: 5 out of 10

Taichi vs Tomohiro Ishii

Motivated Taichi throwing absolutely EVERYTHING he had at the steel wall that is Tomohiro Ishii.  Great match from start to finish with no BS and no rest.  Kicks, suplexes and enough beef to fill a butcher’s, fantastic match and a big win for Taichi.

Winner: Taichi Rating: 8 out of 10

Jon Moxley vs Juice Robinson

This had some good periods where these two dudes were trading shots.  But there were also parts where Moxley was working the knee of Robinson when all I wanted here was a fight.  Robinson gets the win with Pulp Friction to put himself back in US title contention.

Winner: Juice Robinson Rating: 4 out of 10

Shingo Takagi vs Hirooki Goto

SWEET LORD JESUS.  High octant murder in it’s purest form.  There was just an intensity to this one it was two absolute monsters trying to overpower the other and neither backing down an inch.  Shingo got the surprising win but both men got over in the eyes of the crowd

Winner: Shingo Takagi Rating: 8 out of 10

Tetsuya Naito vs Jay White

It’s no shock to anyone that I find White boring as hell.  Naito helped try to make this work by bumping his ass off but it was one of the weaker matches on this card.  Jay White won though? Really?  He went 6-0 after that 0-3 start and it looks like Naito is getting overlooked again.

Winner: Jay White Rating: 3 out of 10

A good show with two fantastic matches that were deserving of Budokan and the big stage of the block finals.  Naito losing put a downer on things but hopefully, Ibushi beats White because no one wants Okada vs White again.
