“Bribery, murder, corruption, this city thrives on it” – The Corrupted (Official Trailer)

On Friday 3rd May, THE CORRUPTED, a contemporary crime-thriller set in the aftermath of a bloody land grab that took place across London ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games, releases in cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

Featuring an all-star cast of British screen favourites, THE CORRUPTED follows Liam (Sam Claflin), an ex-con determined to win back the love and trust of his family, having lost everything at the hands of a local crime syndicate run by Clifford Cullen (Timothy Spall). David Hayman stars as DCI Raymond Ellery and Noel Clarke as determined police officer DS Neil Beckett. THE CORRUPTED was shot on location in East London and comes from director Ron Scalpello (MY NAME IS LENNY, BOBBY), with a screenplay by Nick Moorcroft (FINDING YOUR FEET, URBAN HYMN).

Beneath the blinding lights and towering sights of the newly-built East London skyline, lies a dark, dangerous web of corruption. Stratford was home to the Olympic Games; decorated in the notion of legacy. But there’s little hope to be found for the recently released Liam McDonagh (Sam Claflin); a talented boxer put away for armed robbery, who wants nothing more than a peaceful life, and to reconnect with his young son Archie. But his brother Sean (Joe Claflin) is in deep, caught up in property developer Clifford Cullen’s (Timothy Spall) violent, unforgiving circle, with no route out. Liam knows he must risk everything to save his brother before it’s too late, but first, he needs to know who he can trust – which is a harder proposition than it sounds.

Rounding out the principal cast are Charlie Murphy (PEAKY BLINDERS, ‘71) as DC Gemma Connelly and Beckett’s partner, Naomi Ackie (YARDIE, LADY MACBETH) as Liam’s ex, Grace and Joe Claflin (GAME OF THRONES, GRANTCHESTER) as Liam’s brother Sean, with additional cast members Sam Otto (THE STATE, THE BOY WITH THE TOPKNOT) as ambitious journalist Nayan Khaliq; and Silas Carson (STAR WARS) as Mayor Ahmed.

THE CORRUPTED is produced by Andrew Berg and John Sachs of Eclipse Films (FINDING YOUR FEET, URBAN HYMN); Nik Bower of Riverstone Pictures (SUFFRAGETTE, SELMA) and Laure Vaysse of REP Crime (HAMPSTEAD, KODACHROME) and presented and financed by Motion Picture Capital. Executive producers are Brian Berg of Eclipse Films, James Spring of Fred Films; Phil Hunt of Head Gear, Nick Moorcroft and Meg Leonard of Powder Keg Pictures and Deepak Nayar.
