Daddy’s Home is back and with even more laughs than before. Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) have finally mastered the art of co-parenting. That is until Dusty’s macho dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad’s sweet natured father (John Lithgow) come to town, throwing the whole family into complete chaos. As old rivals create new problems, Dusty and Brad’s partnership is put to the ultimate test.

Following the huge success of the first film, fans will be thrilled about the second instalment. But like with all sequels the expectations are high, and even more so when the original is a success. Over the years there have been so many sequels that have got it all wrong, however Daddy’s Home 2 gets it all right. Refreshingly this sequel is not a disappointment and very much worth the watch. It’s truly laugh out loud funny. A great script has been combined with great actors and acting – a golden recipe that only means success.

In Daddy’s Home 2 we see Will Ferrell at his best. Arguably one of the funniest actors to have hit our screens, this film is a must see for any loyal Ferrell fans. Mel Gibson has been perfectly cast as the tough, cold hearted father of Dusty, it’s as if the role was written specifically for him. Gibson and Wahlberg share fantastic chemistry and portray a very realistic father and son relationship that’s far from perfect. Ferrell and Lithgow equally share fantastic chemistry, instead portraying the much softer and emotional side to a father son relationship.

The portrayal of two very different father son relationships makes the film very relatable. The audience will without a doubt find themselves relating their own father and son relationship to either Gibson’s and Wahlberg’s characters, or with Ferrell and Lithgow’s. And if not their own, everyone will know someone who has a relationship with their dad just like the ones portrayed in Daddy’s Home 2.

The film is set around Christmas and is therefore very festive as you may expect. It’s the sort of film that’s best to watch during the festive period. Although don’t let this put you off, who doesn’t love to watch Christmas movies in spring? Daddy’s Home 2 is laugh out loud funny and will leave you wanting more. It might not be Oscar worthy, but as cheesy as it sounds, it’s a film all the family will love.
