The first Star Trek series since the conclusion of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005 has finally been given a release date! It has been has announced that the highly anticipated Star Trek: Discovery will launch worldwide on Monday, September 25th exclusively on Netflix (excluding the U.S. and Canada).
50 years on from the premier of the original series, Star Trek remains one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises. Said to be set roughly a decade before events in the original series, Star Trek: Discovery will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.
The series will air on CBS All Access in the U.S. and be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries, and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.
The 15-episode first season will be released in two chapters. Netflix will release each episode of the series weekly for streaming within 24 hours of its U.S. debut. The first eight episodes will run from Monday, September 25th through Monday, November 6th. The season will then resume with the second chapter in January 2018.
Star Trek: Discovery is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.
