Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law has been cast as a young Albus Dumbledore in the planned Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel.

One of the most beloved characters from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore has previously been portrayed by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the book adaptations. Jude Law will be playing a much younger version of the character, who is not yet Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but still a Transfigurations professor.

Law’s Dumbledore is also the contemporary of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, who was played by Colin Farrel and Johnny Depp in the first movie.

Author J.K. Rowling, who made her screenwriting debut with the first Fantastic Beasts, returns for the sequel, along with franchise veteran director David Yates.

The second of five planned sequels, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 is set for a November 16, 2018, with principal photography scheduled to begin this summer.
