Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Hail Caesar!) has signed on to play Cable in four films, including the upcoming Deadpool 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Co-created by writer Louise Simonson and artist/co-writer Rob Liefeld, Cable first appeared in The New Mutants #87 (March 1990). The time-travelling adult son of Scott Summers (AKA Cyclops), Cable has frequently been paired up with Deadpool due to his personality acting as a foil to the latter’s shenanigans.
Josh Brolin is no stranger to comic book movies, having starred in Jonah Hex, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and also playing the villain Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who had a cameo appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy and will be the main antagonist in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
John Wick co-director David Leitch will direct Deadpool 2, after original director Tim Miller stepped down due to creative differences. Brolin joins Ryan Reynolds, who is reprising the role of The Merc with The Mouth, as well as Zazie Beets, who will be playing Domino.
Deadpool 2, which recently saw a teaser trailer attached to the release of Logan, is set to come out sometime in 2018.
