Travis Knight, director of the Academy award nominated stop-motion animation film Kubo and the Two Strings, will helm the planned upcoming Transformers Bumblebee spinoff, according to a report by Deadline.

Kubo was Knight’s feature film debut and the as-of-yet-untitled Bumblebee spinoff will be his first live action film. The film’s screenplay was written by Christina Hodson, with Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis producing.

The Bumblebee spinoff is currently slated for a June 8, 2018 release.

The fan-favorite character will next appear in the upcoming fifth live action Transformers movie, Transformers: The Last Knight, once again directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg, Jerrod Carmichael, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan and Stanley Tucci.

Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled for a June 23, 2017 release.
