Fox has released the ‘official trailer’ for War for the Planet of the Apes, the third film in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise. The trailer recounts the previous entries in a series of soundbites, before delving into some new details for the upcoming film. Alongside seeing some of the characters being fleshed out, we see the building rivalry between the leader of the apes, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his new enemy The Colonel (Woody Harrelson).

There’s a lot to take in, and the trailer makes it look like the film is certainly going to deliver on its name. What’s most interesting, however, is the strong focus on ‘Donkey’, a gorilla who can be seen defecting to the side of the humans and warring against his fellow apes. How this will play out remains to be seen, but considering how fantastic Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was, the odds are good that returning director Matt Reeves and returning writer Mark Bomback are going to deliver another thoroughly enjoyable installment in the Apes franchise.
After the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar and his fellow apes continue their war against the humans. As the apes suffer heavy losses, Caesar struggles to repress his dark urges, while seeking vengeance for his fallen friends. Standing against him is the Colonel, who is determined to return humanity to their place as the dominant beings on the planet.
War for the Planet of the Apes is out in cinemas July 14th 2017.
