Ben Affleck recently announced that he was stepping down as the director for the planned upcoming Batman solo movie (working title The Batman) and now Variety brings word that Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will take his place.

Reeves is currently wrapping up post-production on the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes, set for release in July. Given the recent creative team shake-up, it is still unclear when The Batman will begin production or when it will be released.

Little is known about the plot of The Batman, apart from the fact that Joe Manganiello will play Deathstroke and that Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons are expected to reprise their roles as Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, respectively.

Ben Affleck’s Batman is set to appear in the upcoming Justice League film, which is scheduled for a 17 November, 2017 release.

If that’s too far down the line for you, The LEGO Batman Movie, featuring the voice of Will Arnett as Batman, is out now in cinemas.
