Warner Bros. has set an official release date for their upcoming DC superhero movie Aquaman. Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, Aquaman is now scheduled for an October 5, 2018 release – some three months after the July 27, 2018 release which was previously believed to be the plan for the movie’s release. That leaves the July 27 release date possibly open for another, unspecified Warner Bros. project, possibly another DC film.
Jason Momoa made a brief appearance as Aquaman in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the character will receive a proper introduction in the upcoming, Zack Snyder directed Justice League movie, currently scheduled for a November 17, 2017 release.
These movies are part of the DC Extended Universe, a shared continuity of superhero films not unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The DCEU so far includes Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, with Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, The Flash and a possible Harley Quinn spin-off movie coming in the next few years.
Aquaman will also star Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, and Willem Dafoe as advisor Vulko. Additional cast announcements should be expected soon, as the movie is set to begin production early next year in Australia.
