The sky’s the limit in the first footage for Supergirl Season 2, as The CW look to add arguably the most iconic superhero of all-time to their already impressive roster: Superman.

It has been long known that Supergirl planned to introduce the titular character’s iconic cousin into the show fully within the second season, with Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) later announced to be portraying the Man of Steel. Supergirl originated on the American network CBS, but with a renewal in doubt, the show was transferred to the CW where it joins the likes of The FlashArrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Supergirl has already had her first interaction with CW’s heroes in a crossover event with The Flash earlier this year. It has been confirmed that all four of CW’s superhero shows will feature in a four-part crossover later this year. But before that happens, Supergirl needs to debut its Superman in the opening two episodes, and this new teaser gives us a sneak peak at what we can expect from Hoechlin’s take on the character.

Tyler Hoechlin will join Melissa Benoist (Whiplash), who portrays the eponymous Supergirl. The Kryptonian cousins will face off against DC Comics super-villain Metallo in the opening episodes of the season, portrayed by Frederick Schmidt (Starred Up). Also confirmed for the show’s second season is an additional crossover to air in 2017, focusing on only The Flash and Supergirl, that will be a two-part musical episode.

Supergirl Season 2 begins in America on 10th October, with a UK date to be determined by Sky 1.
