Ben Affleck has been in a lot of films; some good, some bad. But one might argue that some of his best films are the ones that he himself has directed (there are, of course, exceptions; Gone Girl wasn’t directed by him, but it was pretty awesome).

Although people are desperate to know more about the future Ben Affleck-directed Batman movie, which recently announced it has cast Joe Manganiello as villain Deathstroke, audiences won’t have to wait quite as long to see Affleck doing double duty both in front of and behind the camera (alongside directing, he also wrote and produced the film).

Starring Affleck, Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Brendan Gleeson, Zoe Saldana, Chris Cooper and Elle Fanning, Live by Night is adapted from the novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane. The film, set in the 1920s and 30s, follows Affleck’s Joe Coughlin, a Bostonite and son of a Police Captain, who moves to Florida and begins pursuing a life of crime.
