In the audio commentary of the recently released for home media X-Men: Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg have confirmed that the villain Mister Sinister will appear in the upcoming, as-of-yet-untitled Wolverine sequel, as discovered by the folks over at Cinema Blend.
Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister, was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri and made his first appearance as an X-Men villain in Uncanny X-Men #221, which came out in 1987. He is a genetically altered human with a wide range of abilities, including, but not limited to, telepathy, telekinesis and shape-shifting.
While the casting of Mister Sinister is has not been revealed at this stage, it seems likely that Richard E. Grant will be taking on the role, especially considering that his character was teased to be a “mad scientist” – a description that certainly fits the bill for the villain.
The upcoming Wolverine sequel will mark the final appearance of Hugh Jackman as the titular character, as well as the final appearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. Directed by James Mangold from a script by David James Kelly, the movie also stars Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
The tentatively titled Wolverine 3 is set for a March 3, 2017 release
