Sky have released a new trailer for their upcoming original production, The Young Pope, starring Jude Law as a newly elected pope, the fictional Pius XIII, struggling with new responsibilities as the first American pope.
The Young Pope will be a ten episode miniseries, created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino (director of Academy Award nominated The Great Beauty). Jude Law will be joined by talent such as Diane Keaton (Annie Hall), James Cromwell (Babe) and Sebastian Roché (Supernatural). An official synopsis for the show reads as follows:
From Paulo Sorrentino, director of the Academy Award-winning The Great Beauty, The Young Pope tells the controversial story of the beginning of Pius XIII’s pontificate. The ten-episode series stars Jude Law as the complex and conflicted Pius XIII, the first American pope. The cast includes Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, an American nun living in Vatican City, as well as Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Toni Bertorelli and James Cromwell.
The Young Pope premieres on Sky Atlantic in the UK on 27th October.
