Acclaimed actor and director Ben Affleck (Argo, Gone Girl, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) took to social media to tease fan-favorite villain Deathstroke will be making an appearance in the DC Extended Universe.
The footage, presented without comment, shows Deathstroke on set in full costume. Affleck is currently filming the upcoming Justice League in London, so this could be revealing that the character of Deathstroke will be one of the villains in that movie. It is also possible that this is actually a tease for Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman feature, which he will direct and star in.
A report by The Wrap claims that Deathstroke will be the primary villain in the solo Batman movie, but this is as of yet unconfirmed. It is also unclear at this time if the Deathstroke seen is actually Slade Wilson, who is the most popular and well recognized incarnation of the character, or another person taking up the mantle.
Deathstroke the Terminator is a mercenary and assassin that was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, and made his debut in The New Titans #2 in 1980. Outside of the comics, he is best known for being one of the main villains in the ‘Teen Titans’ animated series (where he was called Slade and was voiced by Ron Perlman) and a villain on the CW show ‘Arrow’, which has seen several different incarnations of Deathstroke, one of which was also Slade Wilson, as played by Manu Bennett.
Justice League will be directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay by Chris Terrio. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, it is set for a November 17, 2017 release.
