Updated story: Midnight arrived, as did ‘Beautiful Thing’. By no means flawless and at times slightly self-indulgent, it’s a seven minute (!!!) hark back to better times, going some way to making up for the disappointment of ‘All For One’ – John Squire’s guitar capturing that nostalgic moment of psychedelic pop missing for the previous single. Listen below, and let Vulture Hound know what you think, here.

Original story:

If we’ve learned one thing about The Stone Roses, it’s that the Manchester foursome are predictably unpredictable. First they announce their reunion on little more than a whim, then they signal the coming of their first new single in decades with lemons in Manchester.

Now the band have re-emerged from the ether, almost a month from the day since the release of last single ‘All For One’, to announce a brand new single – entitled ‘Beautiful Thing’. The single, produced by Paul Epworth, is said to be released at midnight tonight (00:00 on June 10, 2016).

To be a little controversial, their last single was a little bit underwhelming. It hit the right notes musically, channeling a perfect blend of their sounds from their famous debut and infamous follow-up albums, but lyrically it was built more for live environments than studio spaces. We’ll just have to wait until midnight to find out how this new piece stands up.

The track will be available digitally on iTunes and Spotify from midnight tonight. Unlike the previous single, there will also be a video available on YouTube.
