In an interview with The Reel Word, producer Brad Fuller offered some new details on the upcoming reboot to the Friday the 13th horror franchise, which will have a script penned by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners).

According to Fuller, the movie will be go back to the origin of the franchise’s iconic killer Jason Voorhees, but in a way that hasn’t previously been explored.

“Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”

Pamela is Jason mother and was the primary antagonist of the original Friday the 13th film from 1980.

Fuller also acknowledged the rumors that the movie will incorporate elements of found footage horror, admitting that the idea was considered, but ultimately will not be a part of the project.

‘There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world”.

Brad Fuller will produce the upcoming Friday the 13th reboot along with his partners from Platinum Dunes Michael Bay and Andrew Form. There is currently no director attached after David Bruckner departed from the project. No release date has been set yet.
