If you read my post ‘Documentaries To Watch If You’re Interested In… The Victorian Era’ you’ll remember the documentary ‘Hidden Killers Of The Victorian Home’, well Hidden Killers Of The Tudor Home is exactly the same but discussing Tudor homes. In fact, there’s a full series on Youtube of all the episodes of this fantastic series – it’s well worth a watch.

Obviously a post about Tudor England had to include an in-depth look at the court of Henry VIII. Dear old Henry is possibly England’s most famous ruler, kids at school learn a rhyme for the shortcomings of his wives and historians love to talk about that old tyrant. Henry was a great king though, and this documentary shows how Henry took the ruins his father made and made England great again.

Let’s discuss one of Henry VIII’s daughters, the first Queen Elizabeth. This documentary delves into the mystery of why the Queen never married in her 44 year reign or why she never left an heir to the throne. There are various theories as to why she never married; the most far-fetched being that she was actually killed as a youngster and a boy was forced to take her place. Personally I think that ol’ Lizzie was traumatized by the fact that her mother was beheaded by her own father, and then she went on to watch the horror of his four other marriages – it would be enough to put anyone off.

‘Kings and Queen of England’ is a series that ran on UKTV History in 2004, it went through all of England’s Kings and Queens and the third episode covered, what I find as, the most interesting reign.
