Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, The Danish Girl, Les Miserables) is currently developing a Cats movie based on the musical of the same name, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Cats the musical is the fourth-longest running show in Broadway and West End history. It was last brought to film with a direct-to-video adaptation in 1998.

The movie is still in very early stages of development, with no screenwriter or actors attached to the project. Hooper is considering making the movie entirely with CGI, entirely in live-action, or possibly a combination of the two, as was the case with The Jungle Book.

Tom Hooper will be collaborating with production company Working Title Films and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
