Ahead of the release of new album The Orange Glow (out June 10th on Wichita Recordings), Elizabeth le Fey (AKA Globelamp) has spared some time to put together a rather lovely list of songs. Eleven inspirational, personal and reflective tunes kindly curated into the latest Vulture Hound Guest Playlist.
As well as a new album, Elizabeth is also set to play her first ever London headline show at Servant’s Jazz Quarters on June 7th and a free instore at Rough Trade West on June 8th. In addition she’ll also be joining label mates Mothers on their upcoming UK tour.
Guest Playlist – Globelamp
Paul McCartney – Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
I Love The transitions in this song. Ram is a great album. The love between Paul and Linda McCartney inspires me.
Mount Eerie – Lost Wisdom
There is something extremely peaceful about this song. I could listen to it on repeat for hours.
Bright Eyes – Let’s Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and To Be Loved)
I used to ditch class in high school while listening to this song on repeat on my iPod. The lyrics are still as relevant today as they were back then.
Joel Jerome – Dumb After All
Joel Jerome recorded my album The Orange Glow. Not only is he a great recording engineer, he’s a wonderful musician as well.
The Beatles – You Never Give Me Your Money
One of my all time favourite Beatles songs. I’m a big fan of tempo and mood changes in songs.
Led Zeppelin – Ramble On
I feel like this is the song for any artist and traveler; “…how years ago in days of old when magic filled the air. ‘Twas in the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair, but Gollum and the evil one crept up and swept away with her…there aint nothing I can do. Guess I’ll keep rambling”. It’s a song that reminds me of the death of my best friend.
Fleetwood Mac – Angel
Most of the time angels evoke imagery of clouds and soft light. This song makes you want to groove as you let Stevie Nicks wrap her lyrics around you.
Elliott Smith – Condor Ave
I’m a sucker for a sad song. This is from one of Elliott’s darkest albums, Roman Candle. The meaning of the song hits really hard after hearing it multiple times.
Neutral Milk Hotel – Oh Comely
I love the way Jeff Magnum gives everything to his singing. The lyrics are psychedelic and the trumpet is otherworldly.
Liars – The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack
This song reminds me of when I first moved to Olympia, so it holds a special place in my heart. I remember listening to it with the guys in my old band, Meowtain.
Mazzy Star – Into Dust
I have spent many nights falling asleep listening to Mazzy Star. This song in particular is dreamy and helps me fade into sleep.
