Psychic Teens Bring The Noise On New Single ‘Winter Grey’

Before coming together in 2013, the three members of Psychic Teens played in various bands across Philadelphia. As a result of its mixed heritage, the trio crafted a jagged blend of punk, goth, shoegaze, and noise rock. It’s a profoundly dark amalgamation you’ll get to sample in full when Psychic Teens releases its third album, Nerve, on May 13th via SRA Records.

The follow up to 2013’s Come was recorded in early 2015 alongside producer Steve Poponi (Fight Amp, Into It. Over It.) Guitarist/vocalist Larry Ragone said the album is full of “ugly stuff,” with a press release clarifying that the album’s lyrical content explores “isolationism and anger towards one’s inability to exist amongst and relate to other people.”

To some degree that certainly epitomizes songs like Nerve’s latest single, ‘Winter Grey.’ As Ragone rattles off lines like “I don’t need anyone,” his distinct vocals part sneer and part apathetic whisper, it’s obvious he more than means those sentiments. But a glimmer of hope abounds, and those fuzzy guitars hum with a certain joy, happily embracing the endless nihilism. Listen in below (via Tiny Mix Tapes).

Preorders for the album are available here. For more from the album, check out the anthemic ‘Everything’ and the extra gritty ‘End.’
