All I have to say about Milk Teeth playing massive venues like The Forum in London with Tonight Alive is, and excuse my language, holy sh*t.
I have been on the Milk Teeth train a while now, but the London show really marked a special moment for me; they are not a baby band anymore. They’re not even an insolent teenage band, they are big. The departure of Josh has given them a new lease on life, and it’s like watching a whole new band.
Rebecca Blomfield (Becky) is a superstar. No longer pushed to the side like a bass and backup singer, she is where she belongs, front and centre and absolutely slaying!
I caught up with her on the last night of the tour and she filled me in on everything that happened over their month long run in Europe and the U.K. with Tonight Alive.
Having celebrated a birthday while in Europe, the boys treated Becky to a “girls night” on her birthday eve. Touring with three boys can be exhausting, so the thought process appears to be that makeovers solve everything! And a touch of mascara turns any frog into a princess, at least for one night!
“We partied in an apartment in Hamburg and I did all their makeup they did mine. We danced in the Windows like girls in Amsterdam,” said Becky.
Additionally, the punks from Stroud try to stay cultured on tour, rather than just zoning out on the long drives across Europe they listened to a lot of podcasts; ranging from the man who talked the three head leaders of the Ku Klux Clan out of being members, a day in the life of a phone sex worker, and a ‘hilarious one’ called Belinda Blinks, which apparently is comprised of a son and his friends reading the porno literature his dad wrote.
Sometimes music just doesn’t cut it, so Harry Potter audio books were on rotation, too (as if I couldn’t love Milk Teeth any more!).
Becky said her favourite show of the year so far has been the release show they played in the Two Pigs in Cheltenham right before heading to Europe.
“It was our first [show] with Bill and everyone was so on board. Playing London was insane [and] gave us a taste for bigger crowds and bigger venues, too.”
Billy Hutton really has stepped into Milk Teeth in a strong way. Having seen him play three shows on this run he is just going from strength to strength. Milk Teeth’s show is stronger than ever, the last show of the tour in Birmingham really cemented Billy as a supporting pillar for Becky’s growth into such an amazing frontwoman.
Another highlight of the tour in Europe was the show in Amsterdam where a little bit of love came to the stage on Valentine’s Day.
“We managed to hook up a girl asking out her girlfriend on stage. She said yes; it was one of the sweetest moments that’s ever taken place in a Milk Teeth set, and one we will always remember,” says Becky.
Milk Teeth are bringing punk (and love) to a town near you really soon. They are currently in the US for the first time tomorrow to tour with Citizen, Turnover and Sorority Noise, and chasing that up with a headline run in the UK, you can expect big things from these little punks in 2016.
Milk Teeth’s Headline Tour in the UK starts on May 1st, 2016 following an appearance at Live at Leeds Festival and runs through till May 14th. Buy Tickets here: http://www.stereoboard.com/milk-teeth-tickets
