With its huge fan base, it’s easy to see why Supernatural has made it to its tenth season, with a welcome return to DVD after its brief hiatus. Season ten follows the Winchester brothers as they deal with the fallout of being defeated by angel Metatron in season nine, this time with Dean starting as a demon. This does feel somewhat repetitive as Sam has himself been so close to becoming a full-blown demon in the past, but it is different and still highly addictive, especially as once again we get to see Crowley, the King of Hell that fans love to hate. With his “British” humour he is a welcome addition to the show.

As the seasons have progressed, it’s not just about the Winchester brothers any more; the audience actually want to know about Cass and Crowley, so it is nice that they are included in this season within their own right. As with the latter seasons there is a strong narrative that builds momentum as each episode progresses. It is also great that there are still a couple of ‘stand alone’ episodes where the brothers take some time out from their main mission to go and fight some wayward beasties in the surrounding areas.

The season is very similar to what we have seen before, but just as captivating. There is one main conundrum that the boys are trying to understand and resolve, whilst there are plenty of other monsters that take their attention along the way. You also get to meet some new faces and some familiar friends as the season progresses. Although somewhat predictable, it’s the tried and tested Supernatural method that works so well; the storylines, though familiar, are interesting and engaging enough to keep the audience binging through one episode to the next. Each character has his own issues to face and trials to overcome, so there is plenty to keep audiences going until the season ends with its inevitable cliffhanger, guaranteed to have you clamouring for season eleven to begin.

Along with the show itself, there are also some great bonus features with this box set. The gag reel is always a good watch and a lighthearted way to finish off the drama, and there are some great some deleted scenes and audio commentaries for the die hard fans. One thing is for sure, if you are a Supernatural fan, season ten is a welcome addition to your collection.
