Years & Years – Eyes Shut (Music Video)

It’s about time we see an artist in this industry we call music to create something that isn’t all about love and heart break and blah blah blah.

Years & Years have hit fans hard with their music video of the new single Eyes Shut. It is quite a political piece of art, making us aware of all the destruction that is going on around the world. In the video we see Olly Alexander walking straight through this word of corruption and not a single part of his body is harmed.

I suppose you can see it through two different pairs of eyes, one being that the modern society aren’t aware of what is going on and we are stuck in our own little universe to truly grasp the problems.

Or you could see the video in a positive light, the fact that there is a bright light in the end of the tunnel as I quote from the song “nothing is going to hurt me with my eyes shut, I can see through them” meaning that despite all the issues we hear about in the media, we can get through it.

Perhaps both sound a bit far-fetched but I like to think that the latter is true. Quite different to what I am used to hearing from Years &Years yet I appreciate the message that is being emulated from the video; it’s almost as if we are looking into the eyes of Alexander into his own personal view of the world we live in.

Eyes Shut is out on November 13th.
