When Ridley Scott last visited the outer regions of space he gave us the visually stunning but flawed Prometheus. Now he’s heading out once more and he’s leaving Matt Damon behind on Mars in his new film The Martian.

Damon plays Astronaut Mark Watney who is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew.  But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet (sound familiar to any recent sci-fi cinema viewers?). With limited supplies he has to survive on his ingenuity and spirit to find a way to signal to Earth that he is still alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission.

Starring Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover

The Martian opens on 27 November 2015.
