Spy is the latest from Bridesmaids, The Heat and soon-to-be Ghostbusters director Paul Feig. Re-teaming with his recent muse/star Melissa McCarthy she stars as Susan Cooper a desk-bound CIA analyst who volunteers to go undercover after two of the agencies top spy’s go MIA.
Those two top agency men being Jude Law and Jason Statham starring as Bradley Fine and Rick Ford respectively. So it looks as though the film is combining the re-fined Britishness of Roger Moore-era James Bond and Statham’s own brand of balls-to-the-wall action fisticuffs.
Feig’s had a lot of success over the years in both his feature films and television work on Arrested Development and The Office US so anything coming from his mind is always something to look forward to. The support cast too is impressive: Annie co-stars Rose Byrne and Bobby Canavale, 50 Cent, Miranda Hart, Allison Janney and Peter Serafinowicz.
In this new realised clip below we see McCarthy’s Cooper, who looks like she may have been played by Roseanne in decades previous, meeting with the shadowy Ford in a hotel room. He lays down exactly the credentials for what it is to be a top spy.
Spy is released in the UK on 5th June 2015.
