The Grubby Mitts – To A Friend’s House The Way Is Never Long / The Worm Of Eternal Return (Single Review)

Bedford quintet, The Grubby Mitts, is a group of talented individuals who not only produce some pretty interesting tunes, but who are independently successful in other artful mediums. With their knowledge of music, art, and each other, it is only fitting that they produce something utterly eccentric.

Sounding like something straight out of an episode of The Mighty Boosh, debut single ‘To A Friend’s House The Way Is Never Long’ is quirky not only in name but in totality. Strangely captivating, it consists of a mash up of instruments, vocals, and emotions that seem chaotic yet completely relative to one another. Their most recent release ‘The Worm Of Eternal Return’ is similarly quirky but has more lyrical substance thrown in amongst the unusual mixture of sounds. Beginning awkwardly, it quickly morphs into something charming despite the continuation of abnormal methods.

The Grubby Mitts’ debut album, entitled What The World Needs Now Is, has been in the works for the better part of eight years and is due to be released on March 9th. Based on both tracks that have been released thus far, one can only surmise that the forthcoming album will be memorable, intriguing, and unique.

The re-mastered album version of the debut single is available for free download on the band’s Soundcloud.
