It Follows created a pick splash when it premièred at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Critics are already falling over themselves to commend a new, modern horror that doesn’t rely on well worn demonic possession tropes, found footage clichés and loud scares that is actually scary.

Directed and written by David Robert Mitchell it stars Maika Monroe as nineteen year old Jay. Leading the ordinary life of a teen who goes out, parties, like to meet like minded young men, things take a turn for the wicked after one sexual encounter. After spending the evening with a guy Jay begins to feel as though some malevolent force is watching over her.

The trailer gives little away as to what this horror could be whether supernatural or a physical threat but whatever it is looks terrifying. The film also looks beautifully shot with a David Fincher precision look whilst invoking a 1980’s chiller throwback feel.

We will get a chance to see what horrors the critics at Cannes saw when It Follows is released in the UK on February 27th next year.
