By now, we’re all aware that Gerard Way has reinvented himself entirely since the dissolution of emo rockers My Chemical Romance and has become somewhat of an indie super-stud. His latest album ‘Hesitant Alien’ has taken an entirely unexpected approach which throws back to his personal  music influences of brit-pop, indie and 80s rock. With all of this in mind, his latest video premiere for ‘Millions’ proves nothing to the contrary.

His newly formed Jarvis Cocker demeanour is so far contrasted from the vision of death we got from the monochrome ‘The Black Parade’ days in MCR. Bright red hair, coupled with an eclectic range of colourful and flamboyant suits is enough to make you forget your emo past and in his new video we’re given nothing but fantastic 80s vibes and some questionable visual effects. It appears to have been spawned from the mad vibrancy of The Cure and Pulp with guitar riffs to match.

In some ways it feels like this is where Gerard Way should have been all along and if given enough time, perhaps this is what he will one day be best known for. Let us not forget his past, as I’m sure I am not alone in silent mourning for the loss of MCR, which disappeared much like our past emo selves.  This is a new era we should embrace, not only because change is often good but because his new direction is really, really, really good.
