Mystery is good when it’s suggested. You think they’re not showing us the whole picture but you can’t be sure. Questions are best when you don’t think the films marketing has asked them for you. Please, someone tell the team behind The Remaining. I now know exactly what to think and what to look for because the trailer told me. It diminishes the sense of intrigue when it’s others who have been doing the thinking for you. Other than that, it whacks us round the head with all the found footage disaster film clichés. Big, important event ruined by disaster? Check. Opening that questions whether or not the main characters are still alive? Check. Someone proclaiming that this incident isn’t isolated to their little home town? Check. Me getting bored and looking at Twitter half way through? Double check.
