The man from a small town with a big voice is set to take over the airwaves. Growing up on a feast of Nina Simone and Tom Waits it is unsurprising that Hozier would have such a soulful influence.
Take Me to Church, released on Rubyworks/Island Records, is a spirited debut from the new age Irish crooner. With heavy religious overtones he sings “If I’m a pagan of the good times, my love is the sun light” proving that the rural town of Bray, County Wicklow where he grew up has had a direct impact on his lyrics.
Inspired by his first break up, we hear a passionate anthem for those that have lost their religion in some way. Very fitting for our times. With such a bold message we do not only have the spine tingling audio but an inspiring, raw and original video to accompany the track which is both powerful and moving and I challenge you not to hit repeat.
Hozier releases his debut album on 6th October and is set to embark on a UK and European tour. For a soulful evening and to witness raw talent, book your tickets to the following shows.
