Whiplash: Trailer Watch

Here comes next award seasons underdog that could. Whiplash is the story of Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller) a young jazz drumming protégé. He’s got what it takes to be huge in the big-band scene. He’s got a supportive girlfriend, a loving family, and he’s just starting at Julliard. A problem arises though, in his new teacher Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), who quickly turns from inspirational Dead Poet’s Society style optimist, into demonic slave driver, increasingly pushing young Neyman to the edge, both physically and emotionally.

The impressive trailer builds on the stomach churning emotions throughout, and looks to be a great psychological thriller. Simmons and Teller both look incredible. The film, directed by Damien Chazelle and based on his own award winning short film, has garnered great buzz in the US festival circuit. Hopefully a UK release is imminent.
