Rob Lynch – Whiskey (Single Review)

Rob Lynch pours himself out in his latest self-penned single, Whiskey, from his debut album All These Nights In Bars Will Somehow Save My Soul.

Lynch reminisces a night spent drinking too much whiskey with his father.Later, the song provides the revelation of the same story being told by his late father in hospital. As Lynch explains;

“This is a song about a night my father and I had together where we drank too much whiskey and played each other our favourite songs,” he says. “He died when I was 21, and when I first went to visit him in hospital, I was walking down the corridor towards his ward and I could hear him telling the other patients around him the story about that night we had.”

The melancholy narrative is carried by buoyant, folksy acoustics; the contrast between lyrics and melody incites a refreshing blend of optimism that takes light from dark circumstance. The song immortalises the memory of that shared night, paying homage to Lynch’s father.

With an penchant for such raw exposure, Rob Lynch is sure to clutch at the hearts of many more on his headline tour and as the main support on the forthcoming UK tour with This Wild Life in September/October. Dates below:
