From the man who brought us ‘Black Rain’ and ‘White Squall’ comes a biblical epic ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’

Ridley Scott has been slowly raising his quota of epic sized films over the last few decades. ‘Gladiator’ had all the marking of an old fashioned Spartacus level romp, he trumped that with the almost Vista like Kingdom of Heaven and years after attempting to get his Tripoli project off the ground he has turned he considerable visual flair to the story of Moses.

Christian Bale stars as Moses looking very much like Christian Bale holding a sword. Joel Edgerton on the other hand has transformed into Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses – perhaps no other Egyptian actors were available? Ah well Joel Edgerton is great.

The trailer shows much but gives away little. We see that Moses and Ramses as old friends turned rivals, some “epic looking” CGI shots, Sigourney Weaver turning her head and massive bloody great wave, which if anything just made me think of another recent biblical epic.

The film is written by uber-writer Steve Zaillian who is responsible for giving us Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York and Scott’ own American Gangster, he know how to do drama with scope. Hopefully this will be more Gladiator than Kingdom of Heaven.
