The X-Men movies have always suffered from the same – almost inevitable – problem. Overpopulation. And now in Days of Future Past the filmmakers are trying to stuff all the same characters in, but this time they are trying to fit them in twice; young and old versions of the X-Men. A time travel movie with too many people and two versions of each person? It’s going to get really confusing really quickly. The trailer seems to agree. No sense of narrative, no cohesion between characters, just a bunch of vague generic tag lines designed to make it sound like there’s a lot at stake but never giving us any real idea of what it might be. This one remains an unknown quantity but my doubts have not been laid to rest.
