Ordinaryson’s – Sorted Out (Single Review)

Ordinaryson’s new single Sorted Out is the title track of their latest album, released in November 2012. Whilst not a revolutionary sound, nevertheless Sorted Out has a distinct appeal. Soft melodies and expressive lyrics work well, a very British tone that hints at folk and regional influences. Calming music meets challenging lyrics in a blend that is both enjoyable and affecting.

Helmsman, singer and lead guitarist Ian S. Thompson finalised the current Ordinaryson line up in 2007, bringing lead guitarist Nick Holmes, bass player Steve Walker and drummer Callum Knox back to Ian’s home-town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The return to his roots contrasts markedly with Ian’s love of travelling, perhaps allowing him to put his experiences into perspective, and so into song.

Big things are predicted from Ordinaryson. Their music is solid fare – ideal summer festival sounds and lyrical content that pushes the band from a simple indie-folk movement to something more inspired and controlled. It’s easy to see Ordinaryson taking their place at a giant like Glastonbury in the next few years.
