Coventry darkwave indie band Russian Gun Dogs are looking forward to 2013 being their year, with BBC Introducing backing them as a band we’ll all be listening to this year. And that may well be a likely prediction. The band are enjoying riding the wave of popularity that modern indie music is still enjoying, and the lads are suitably good looking in that grungy, nerdy way that’s so popular these days.
They describe their sound as having “a nod of appreciation to pop melodies and bounciness”, but new single ‘Survive’, released Febuary 25th, is something a little different. Moody and emotive, the track brings something far more melodic to the table of indie anthems. And this is what will make them stand out from their peers. The track is passionate and tender, but it’s also something of a coiled spring; I found myself waiting for an explosion of sound that never came. Maybe that’s what we can look forward to this year.
