Playing songs originally written for guitarist Richie Follin’s main act, acclaimed indie-pop merchants Cults, New York trio Guards play the kind of shimmering, hazy pop that is all the rage at the moment, with a slightly heavier guitar tone to keep things fresh. You’ve heard it all before, but it’s still worth casting an eye over the video, which is a throwback to the kind of mid 70s promos that involved the band playing on a stage somewhere in space while disturbing psychedelic projections, which in this case looks like an eager snout, play havoc in the background. The black masks on the session members are a tad odd as well.
