Dark Horses are clearly destined for very big things in 2013. Their debut album ‘Black Music’ has already been BBC 6 Music’s album of the week, despite the fact it isn’t released until February.
Both ‘Traps and ‘Boxing Day’ come from their upcoming LP and feature the hauntingly downbeat sound that Dark Horses have come to be known for. ‘Traps’ is the better of the two tracks, misleadingly seeming to build up to an explosive climax before fading out rather celebratory. Lead singer Lisa Elle’s vocals seem to swoop low throughout the verses before returning to soar above the sound of guitars and drums in the chorus. However ‘Boxing Day’ is slightly disappointing; never rising to be anything more than it is when it begins, a rather slow synthy track. While remaining eloquent throughout, it is also constantly boring. Unlike the band itself.
