Ellen and The Escapades – Without You (Single Review)

Ellen and The Escapades – Without You (Single Review)

Ellen and The Escapades, an alternative folk quintet hailing from Leeds, have just released Without You, the second single from their début album All The Crooked Scenes.

Despite their English roots, Ellen and The Escapades nail the twangy Americana sound without descending into twee-territory. Their sound is an exciting blend of pop and folk/country styles, complete with huge swaths of harmonica throughout.

Ellen Smith’s vocals are alluring in their dusky tones, and instantly likeable.

Turning the usually melancholic topic of lost love on it’s head, Smith and her band craft a surprisingly up-beat and catchy track about picking up the pieces and getting back on track.

Ellen And The Escapades are also preparing to play a string of live dates:

Thu 25 Oct – The Wilmington Arms, London

Sun 28 Oct – Pocktoberfest, Pocklington

Mon 29 Oct – The Cluny 2, Newcastle

Wed 31 Oct – Louisiana, Bristol

Thur 1 Nov – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
