Dan Hinkles, the creator of 5 Star Wrestling, took part in a Facebook Q&A this weekend and revealed tons of important information regarding the future of the company. He called the 3-year deal signed between the company and TV channel FreeSports “the opportunity of a lifetime”. This deal will allow 5 Star Wrestling to become the first UK wrestling promotion to air a weekly live TV series on a UK channel available to most homes in the country and on prime time.
About the 128 competitors tournament that was set to take place last year but was postponed, Hinkles said: “we fully plan on running that 128 man tournament that we talked about and when that happens, obviously we’ll be pulling in a lot more stars from around the globe.” The first show will take place on February 1st in Liverpool, with a roster of 30 wrestlers (20 from the UK, 10 from the rest of the world).
Hinkles also revealed there are currently five different 5 Star Wrestling championship belts in production, including a new version of John Morrison’s 5 Star Championship. The 4 new titles have yet to be revealed, like what they will represent. Morrison will defend his title against Rob Van Dam in Liverpool, a match that FreeSports will broadcast live on February 1. Hinkles hinted that Jake Hager, who made an impact at the press conference to launch 5 Star Wrestling LIVE on FreeSports, may decide to challenge the winner of the Morrison-RVD match.
5 Star Wrestling is also planning to introduce a Women’s division that would be incredible. Hinkles told: “So right now, we have our people on the lookout for the absolute best female wrestlers in the world. There won’t be many women on the early shows but by the middle of 2018, we’ll be launching something special.”
A partnership with other UK wrestling promotions is also in the plans, as the company has already done it over the years. Twelve new dates have been announced for the live weekly TV series and arena tour, London, Glasgow and Leicester are targeted by the company as future venues. Hinkles added 5 Star Wrestling events will be aired live on social media as well as on FreeSports.
