It’s been a while since Vulture Hound favourites, Bad Wave released a new track – eight months to be precise. Eight long Bad Wave-less months. But in the spirit of the times, the LA based, synth pop duo have given us an extra special, early Christmas present in the form of not one but TWO new tracks.
First up, ‘Money’. Released last week, this is three minutes and ten seconds of bouncing and joyous bubblegum electro, full of the ‘sunshine in a can’ synth pop that endeared us to Tucker Tota and Patrick Hart in the first place.
Juxtaposing the sonic-sunshine comes a cynical (but almost certainly true) lyric all about the reasons for staying in relationships, which, more often than not, are definitely not about love; “I just want you for your money”.
And, just incase you missed it, the band also recently dropped a sparkling cover of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘LOVE.’. It’s an earnest and emotive rendition of one of Kendrick’s most popular tracks, and features a guest performance from Tota’s parents’ Steinway piano.
Tota explains about the composition on the band’s official site; “Pat also wanted to figure out a way to use my parents’ Steinway piano which has a built-in player piano thing from the ‘80s. You can put in floppy disks and have it play Cole Porter songs. But we figured out that it has a midi input and can be controlled via the all-powerful laptop. And so he (Patrick) wrote a piano part that only a robo-piano could ever possibly perform.”
And yes, robo-piano performs exceptionally. Watch the video, below.
