Raw Recap – 04/09/2017

No Mercy is in less than 3 weeks and two huge matches are already set up for September 24. Jeff Hardy became the #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship, but The Miz never comes alone to the ring. Jason Jordan is still Kurt Angle’s illegitimate son…

Even if Doctor Frenchy hasn’t written on RAW for months, that doesn’t mean she didn’t stay tuned… My name is Steph and I watched RAW for you (and I tried not to fall asleep in the middle of it…)

The show opened with what Michael Cole called a career-making moment, as Jason Jordan was squaring off with John Cena. Jordan did his best, really, but of course Super Cena won the match with the AA after 20 minutes of a good match.

After the match, Roman Reigns came to the ring to congratulate Cena (I’m joking…). Another big men promo, “this is my yard”, “my balls are bigger than yours”. Cena said he was disgusted by Reigns’ whole face and Reigns was doing the worst thing a guy like him could try and do right now – use his brain. Cena even pointed out how Reigns came out with his zipper down. Reigns said he actually busted the zipper because he’s a big dog. Reigns replied calling Cena a lying, fake ass little b—h. Well, these 2 guys don’t respect each other and they will beat each other’s ass at No Mercy. The way the crowd was cheering Cena and booing Reigns, we understand easily who they want to see having his ass kicked at No Mercy… (and I fully agree with them…)

OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT:

– Sheamus and Cesaro defeated Rhyno and Heath Slater. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were on commentary. It was announced Sheamus and Cesaro will get their rematch at No Mercy for the RAW Tag Team Championships.

– Jeff Hardy may have told Renee Young he was going to go out in a blaze of glory or leaving with the WWE Intercontinental Title. But even with his brother on his side, what to do against The Miz surrounded by Maryse, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas? Distractions were on the menu of course and both Matt Hardy, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas were ejected from ringside. The Miz was really on the way to lose the belt but one person was still at ringside and woke him up when Jeff Hardy was about to hit the Twist of Fate. The Miz was able to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the pin.

– Nia Jax asked General Manager Kurt Angle for a title shot but he told her Sasha was contractually obligated to. Emma rushed to tell the GM she’s the new Twitter Superstar with her new hashtag – #GiveEmmaAChanceAtTheWomensTitle. Nia threatened Emma. Angle made a tag match for tonight. If Emma and Jax win, they will be put into the title match at No Mercy to make it a Fatal 4 Way.

– In the 205 Live moment of the night, Enzo Amore opened his big mouth again, proving if Neville is the King of Cruiserweights, he’s really his best Jester. Alongside Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik, he defeated Drew Gulak, Tony Nese and Noam Dar. Poor 205 guys, they didn’t deserve a punishment like Enzo Amore… mostly when they haven’t done anything wrong…

– Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss had an ego war backstage before their match while Finn Balor was opening the Monster’s Ball in the ring. The “too sweet” little puppy made a statement saying he wanted his waist to be covered with WWE belts, before Bray Wyatt appeared on screen. He said he wants to fight Finn Balor and not The Demon King, because his alter ego won at SummerSlam, not him. Wyatt wondered if Balor’s going to run like a scared little rabbit at No Mercy for their rematch.

– Emma and Nia Jax defeated Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss, making the RAW Women’s Championship match a Fatal 4 Way match. Emma and Nia were not really on the same vibe. After the match, Emma tried to shake hands with her partner of the night but Nia Jax preferred to lay her down with a Samoan Drop.

– Braun Strowman promised to destroy Big Show in his first-ever Steel Cage match to send a message to Show, Angle, Lesnar and everyone else.

– RAW Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in a non-title match. Sheamus and Cesaro were watching from ringside and interfered in the match, with Sheamus distracting the referee while Cesaro was holding Ambrose’s leg. Not enough to make the Champions lose their match. But enough to infuriate Gallows and Anderson and create a post-match brawl between the #1 contenders and The Club. Rollins and Ambrose watched the show from the ramp, a smile on the face.

– Big Show promised to destroy Strowman because, in 23 years, there hasn’t been a WWE Superstar big enough or bad enough to break him. Meanwhile, the referee was expecting the ring not to collapse…

Steel Cage Match: Big Show vs. Braun Strowman

Show proved he was mastering the Steel Cage more than Strowman and really put him in danger many times in the match. An angry Show threw Strowman in the steel, again and again, hit a big elbow drop from the top rope. A big men classic match, slow, with hard moves. Braun tried to escape through the door, Show by climbing the cage. The Giants Superplex happened but the ring held on. Strowman got the win thanks to a power slam.

Strowman grabbed the mic to ask if people saw what he just did to the so-called giant. Because that’s what he’s going to do to Brock Lesnar at No Mercy to become the Universal Champion. If the ring didn’t collapse, the Steel Cage collapsed when Strowman power slammed Show through it. Braun stood tall while the referees were checking on Big Show.

TO SUM UP:

This is the moment when words are suddenly missing. Nothing new on the Red sunshine, more bad than good. We saw the “Big men break it all” script so many times before. Enzo Amore is destroying the Cruiserweight division with his big mouth. On the women’s side, nothing new too, the same Sasha-Alexa-Nia love triangle, with Emma as the weakest link. The way RAW is moving back, the show will soon reach Ground Zero…
