Stuck in a rut? In need of a lift? Look no further than Inner Tongue and the intoxicating sound of ‘Dig Deeper‘. A dreamy haze over intricate beats, this track explores adrenaline, weightlessness and feelings of freedom.
Inner Tongue is the project of a man in his mid-twenties, who has overcome uncertainty of the future of his musical career. Having been diagnosed with a vocal chord disorder and working hard to raise funds for specialist treatment in order to live out his passion, Inner Tongue’s creativity was faced with a pretty hefty challenge; forced to rest his voice for months after the treatment, in fear that it might never come back. However, that didn’t quite stop him.
“I decided to modify my musical focus temporarily by writing songs which could a produce a melodic tension without vocals, but which featured the trails of forward looking pop music.”
In the spirit of looking forward, Inner Tongue regained his voice, along with a new perspective. He released his debut EP in 2015 and is now set to release his first full length album early next year. Recorded and produced in London by Flood and Alan Moulder, with the help of John Catlin, who has worked with the likes of Foals and Warpaint, you just know that this is going to be something special.
However, the core of the album’s beauty will come from the work that Inner Tongue started in his home of Vienna. Here he finds inspiration from the city’s electronic scene, but also the calm of the mountains, and this is certainly something that comes through in ‘Dig Deeper’, a mere taste of what we can expect of the album.
Despite all the hard work that has gone into this track and Inner Tongue’s career in general, there is an effortless feel to ‘Dig Deeper’, perhaps highlighting how easy it can be to be free from our minds for just a few minutes. This was no accident of course, and as such, the accompanying video was created to reflect this; “I recently bought an old Roland Space Chorus and had a good time experimenting with it in the studio. The moody drum sound I’ve created with it, was somewhat inspiring, so I recorded a few chords and vocals over it. That’s how Dig Deeper started”.
The track weaves delicacy with deep grooves, allowing us to reveal a sweet trip of intrigue and serenity. There is a warmness to ‘Dig Deeper’, yet a coolness that washes over it, lending a feeling of refreshment to its listeners. This couldn’t have come at a better time, perfect for summer evenings outside. Take a listen, below.
‘Dig Deeper’ is out now via Mount Silver Records & Caroline International Records.
