More on Impact Wrestling – AAA Partnership

statement from Impact Wrestling broke down yesterday to confirm the alliance between the USA- based promotion and Mexico Lucha Libre promotion AAA, giving more details on the previously announced talent exchange, cross-promotion and co-branded events.

In late March, Impact Wrestling issued a first statement announcing the establishment of a landmark alliance between Impact Wrestling and Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA. Impact Wrestling President Ed Nordholm, Chief Creative Officer Jeff Jarrett and announcer Jeremy Borash were spotted at the annual AAA event, Rey del Reyes, in Monterrey a few days before the announcement.

This statement was already settling a talent exchange and possible collaborations between the organizations. “Exciting time to collaborate”, said Jarrett, as AAA is celebrating his 25th anniversary this year and Impact Wrestling his 15th anniversary. For Ed Nordholm, this alliance was a new important step in Impact Wrestling international expansion. The company is currently developping international partnerships in Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom and India.

The first step of talent exchange will take place on July 2 as AAA talents will appear at Impact Wrestling Pay-Per-View Slammiversary 2017 in Orlando, Florida. Meanwhile, top Impact stars Bobby Lashley, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards will be apart of 25th Anniversary of AAA big event, Triplemania XXV. An Impact Championship will even be defended in Mexico City on August 26. The two promotions also announced their intention to launch co-branded live tours in the fall.

The new element of this alliance concerns programs distribution. Anthem, the majority owner of Impact Wrestling, will work with AAA to expand its global viewership with the distribution of Lucha Libre events on Fight Network, the world’s premier combat sports channel and home of IMPACT Wrestling in Canada. Meanwhile, AAA will help Impact Wrestling gain more viewership in new territories throughout Latin America and South America.

For Ed Nordholm, “by combining our efforts on talent, touring and distribution, we (Impact and AAA) will increase the global footprint of our respective companies and create the best product for our passionate fan bases.” For Jeff Jarrett, these future co-branded events and talent exchange prove Impact Wrestling “continue to build promotional bridges on a global basis”.

Dorian Roldan, Executive VP of Enterprise Development for AAA, stated there was no best way to celebrate 25 years of work by sharing the news of this alliance but also “the announcement of our international tour that includes not only the North American stops that we will complete with IMPACT Wrestling but also countries like Colombia and Japan”.
