Family sitcoms could be nothing without the matriarch, much like our own families, they’re the glue that holds shows and families together. For Mother’s Day we have compiled a list of our favourite TV mums, or ‘moms’.
- Beverly Goldberg (The Goldbergs)
The Goldbergs is a relatively new show following the childhood of Adam F. Goldberg, a lot of the characters and scenes are inspired by the real Adam Goldberg’s family and you guessed it, Beverly is his mum. Despite being slightly insane, catastrophizing every event, and being a smotherer she is one of the greatest TV mums even in the short time she’s been on the screen, she has a character that everyone can identify their crazy mum in and is so well played by Wendi McLendon-Covey.
- Kitty Forman (That’s 70s Show)
That 70s Show was incredibly iconic when it came out, and since then it has carried on getting a cult following in every generation that grows up and discovers the show, and guess who has her own following? Kitty Forman. She’s sweet, funny, caring, and seems to hate and love her children at the same time, as well as all of their friends. Most of the time Kitty steals the scenes with either her tongue in cheek put downs or her famous cackle that made an appearance whenever she was nervous. What a lady.
- Sophia Petrillo (The Golden Girls)
To me Sophia is one of the funniest characters of all time, let alone just on The Golden Girls. Her put downs and wise cracks have never been matched when it comes to TV moms. She’s a cute little old lady but you know she could break your knee caps in just one phone call.
- Linda Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)
“Alright!” If this was a list I had written from my own personal love, Linda would be up the top. Bob’s Burgers is an astoundingly underrated show and Linda makes it for me. Being one of the first shows where I felt a woman (albeit a cartoon woman) completely stole the show and is the funniest character, all the while sharing the screen with male characters. She’s the kind of mum you look at and you wish she could be your mum but you’re also so glad at the same time she isn’t.
1.Marge Simpson (The Simpsons)
Obvious choice, right? Well that’s probably because she’s the most iconic mum in the world. Not only is she incredibly relatable, she’s sexy. To me she was the first TV mum that had sex appeal and something to say. She was the matriarch, the one who had the best advice, although it was often never followed. And good lord was Homer punching above his weight!
