Each week Vulture Hound picks a new artist you should definitely be checking out. This week, Lindsay explains why The Mystery Lights deserve your ears.
Looking for a new garage rock n roll band to fall in love with? Look no further. We’ve been buzzing about The Mystery Lights ever since we accidentally discovered them at South by Southwest in Texas last year.
The Mystery Lights are a furiously energetic garage rock four-piece band from New York via California. They have been on never ending tours of the States and Europe, but this is where they are most at home. They have such a natural primal energy about them when they step on stage you can tell that rock ‘n’ roll is what these four guys were meant to be doing.
Their self-titled LP was the first official release from Daptone Records new rock imprint, Wick Records. We’ve had this on repeat since the summer. Recorded completely live it’s no surprise it sounds like you’ve stepped back in time and entered a chaotic, yet soulful sixties psychedelic freak-out which perfectly sums up what you’ll experience at one of their live shows.
The Mystery Lights have just finished a huge European Tour ending with a crazy sold out show at London’s Lexington. We caught up with singer and guitarist Mike Brandon after the show and he told us how he feels more at home in London that anywhere else and can’t wait to get back for more dates. Nor can we, they’re due back in May so look out for announcements coming soon.
The future of Rock ‘n’ Roll is here!
The Mystery Lights self-titled debut album is available now on Wick Records.
